Abstract

The report reviews highlights of the history of Air Force weapon system acquisition management from 1917 until the present. It confines itself to a discussion of principal features of the changing management structure over time. The intention is to offer some explanation of current acquisition policies and organizations, and to supply some perspective for informed decisions about the future. The report concentrates on the organization and policy aspects of the process.
