Problems of Bacteria Virulence,

Abstract

Studies of the chemical composition of pathogenic bacteria have not revealed (except for the lipids of mycobacteria) any unique compounds which can be associated with the pathogenic effect of infectious agents. Virulence is one of biology's complex problems. Its complexity is obvious from the fact that there has not yet been an exhaustive determination of the very concept of virulence, which must be examined as a kind of equivalent force between two dynamic biological systems - the microbe and the macroorganism. The data of numerous studies is presented in which attempts were made to explain the chemical and metabolic principles of the virulence of pathogenic bacteria. (Author)
