A Numerical Model Depicting a Wind-Driven Circulation in an Ocean Basin Containing an Island.

Abstract

A numerical model was developed depicting the wind-driven circulation in an ocean basin containing an island. This linear, barotropic, filtered model was utilized to test and evaluate the 'Hole Relaxation' technique in preparation for future comparative studies with a free surface model and later incorporation in a multi-level world-ocean model with islands. Eight different data cases were studied to evaluate the model's ability to properly treat a variety of island sizes and locations. (Author)
