The Fuchs Model for the DASA-TRIGA Reactor,

Abstract

During the Phase I training of AFRRI reactor operators, Dr. R. Scalettar of the General Atomic staff presented a solution of the so-called Fuchs Model for pulsing reactors. He remarked that, while the parametric results of the Fuchs Model were widely quoted, he was unaware of any published account of the complete analytic solution. The author subsequently found a much simplified derivation for the closed form of the power function. The greatest simplification arose from the somewhat unnatural postponement of the evaluation of an integration constant. Excepting this one artificiality, the solution becomes an elementary and straightforward calculus exercise. The author also found an exact expression for the peak power in terms of natural parameters and reactor constants. Furthermore, very sharp estimates of certain constants are given in terms of initial and peak power. (Author)
