The Synthesis of 9-Vertex, Monocarbon, Metallocarboranes by Polyhedral Contraction.

Abstract

The base degradation of orange (pi-C5H5)Co(III)(pi-6,7-B10C2H12) has been found to effect a polyhedral contraction reaction to give ((pi-C5H5)Co(III)-(pi-2-B7CH8))(-1). This reaction constitutes the first reported example of a small metallocarborane formed by the removal of a carbon atom and three boron atoms from the polyhedral framework of a larger metallocarborane.
