On the Variation in Mechanical Properties of Large Caliber Gun Tube Forgings.

Abstract

The variations in tensile and Charpy impact properties of nine large caliber gun tube forgings were evaluated by an analysis of variance technique. Using the variance within individual disks as an estimate of error variance, the variation between disks was determined for each forging. In addition, a two factor analysis (cross-classification) was conducted on tubes of similar configuration to define significant variations in mechanical properties between like tubes. (Author)
