Feasibility Study of Man-Machine Interaction.

Abstract

The first section described in considerable detail a recommended mathematical model for a special class of man-machine systems. The particular system chosen for study corresponds to the physical situation when a human grasps a machine with both hands and moves about with the machine, in some prescribed but other wise arbitrary manner, in an inertial reference frame R(I). The mathematical model recommended for use in studying the behavior of such man-machine systems is a mechanical system S composed of five, interconnected rigid bodies. These five bodies represent the machine operator's two upper arm segments the two forearm segments, and the machine itself plus the operator's two hands. The second section contains a proposed method for obtaining the equations governing the motion of S in R(I). The third section contains a detailed description of a particular mathematical model which was recommended for use during the final phase of the feasibility study. Also included in this section was a procedure to be used in the analysis of that model. (Author)
