Experimental Studies on the 'Orientation Effect' and Development of New Dynamometer Designs for Measuring Pressure in a Soil Mass,

Abstract

The results of investigations of different types of 'Messdoz' dynamometers are presented, these instruments being intended for measuring pressures in a soil mass. The basic requirements which the 'Messdozes' must satisfy are formulated. A description is presented of new designs of 'Messdozes' for measuring static and dybamic stresees in soils, the measurement accuracy of which is not significantly affected by a change in the modulus of deformation and by the position of diaphragms relative to the direction of the acting stress.
