Multiple Resource-Constrained Game Solution.

Abstract

The paper addresses the problem of evaluating general-purpose forces and for relating the value of a force type to the other allied forces available and to enemy forces present in a short time period. The formulation is in terms of a zero-sun game whose payoff elements and strategies are functions of force levels used; further, since these force levels are constrained over short periods of time, the formulation is that of a resource-constrained zero-sun game. The problem outlines a computational procedure for solving such a game. The procedure directly produces Lagrange multipliers associated with each resource (or force type). The multiplier for a force type indicates its value -- directly or indirectly -- in achieving the solution payoff of the game. The procedure used here involved the use of generalized Lagrange multipliers in conjunction with Brown's method of fictitious play. (Author)
