On Distinguishing Between With and Without Replacement.

Abstract

The author considers the problem of testing the null hypothesis that a sample has been drawn from the binomial distribution against the alternative hypothesis that it has been drawn from the hypergeometric distribution. A simple test, based on the sample mean and variance, is proposed and shown to be asymptotically efficient. (Author)
