Transnational Differences in the Accelerated Manager's Willingness to Budget for Ecology.

Abstract

Data on 3511 managers in the IRGOM data bank were used to study the extent managers were willing to expend funds in a simulated budgeting exercise on safety, a wage increase, personnel development, product improvement and eliminating water pollution caused by the firm. In each of the twelve countries, accelerated managers--younger men at high levels were contrasted with normals and decelerates--older men at low levels. Spending to eliminate pollution was positively associated with acceleration in the Scandinavian countries, Switzerland, Italy, and Japan, and negatively associated in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and France.
