The Application of Data Processing to Mechanical Testing. Part 2. Comparisons with Conventional Practice.

Abstract

The variability of results from several observers making similar measurements of mechanical test data has been examined. The measurement of the gradients of load/displacement curves exhibits the largest variation, up to plus or minus 13 per cent between observers and up to plus or minus 7 per cent between repeat measurements. The use of data processing is shown to eliminate these effects and can improve the accuracy of recording. (Author)
