Mathematical Classification and Description of the Response Characteristic in the Elliptically Polarized VLF and LF Field,

Abstract

A systematic classification and mathematical description of the three-dimensional response characteristic (= pedaloid) of a direction finding antenna in an elliptically polarized field is given. Furthermore the areas are described occurring at the intersection of the pedaloid with a plane. Finally the squint is calculated that arises when the direction finder is not rotated in the plane of the polarization ellipse but in another one when measuring the maximum of field strength.
