Thermal Parameters as a Predictor of Precipitation Type for Kincheloe AFB, Michigan.

Abstract

The paper presents a summary of thermal parameters as predictors of precipitation type at Kincheloe AFB, MI. The material presented in this paper may be used in the preparation of an objective forecast when the input data is extracted from current observations and prognostic facsimile charts. The Sault Ste. Marie, MI, radiosonde data (0000Z and 1200Z) are correlated against precipitation type that occurred at Sault Ste. Marie AFB, MI. Thermal parameter combinations used in this study are: 1000-850mb thickness, 1000-700mb thickness, 1000-500mb thickness, 850-700mb thickness; surface, 950mb, 850mb and 700mb temperatures; 850mb wind direction.
