Development of a Gas Generating Unit to Close a Fast Gate Valve.

Abstract

A program was initiated to change the gas source used for operation of a standard 12 inch fast gate valve from a high pressure bottled gas feed system to a pyrotechnic gas generator feed system. To accomplish this change, Lockheed Missiles and Space Company designed and developed the gas generator. Lawrence Research Labotatory provided the valve design changes required, and the Air Force Rocket Propulsion Laboratory made the modifications to the valve and provided the test facilities and personnel to test and evaluate the new mode of operation.
