A Multi-User Circulation Inventory Model,

Abstract

The paper studies a model arising from an Air Force inventory application where items circulate among different user locations and a repair center. The decision-making consists in deciding which user location should receive an item coming out of repair. The model is formulated as a discrete time-multi-state variable dynamic programming problem. A heuristic decision rule called the Transportation Time Look Ahead policy is presented along with some simulation results. The main result of the paper is a theorem wherein the Transportation Time Look Ahead policy is shown to be optimal for a modified version of the original model. (Author)
