Transit Simplified Receiver (TRANSIM)- A Low-Cost Satellite Navigation System. Volume I.

Abstract

The report discusses the design and development of the TRANSIM(TRANsit SIMplified Receiver) satellite navigation system. The system consists of the TRANSIM receiver, a programmable electronic calculator, and a receiving antenna. Subsystems of the Navy Navigation Satellite System (i.e., the polar-orbiting earth satellites and the network of tracking stations) are also discussed in addition to integral doppler navigation theory. The TRANSIM receiver was developed by the Applied Physics Laboratory to meet the need for a simplified, moderately accurate, low-cost satellite navigation receiver. A functional description of the receiver is presented, and operating characteristics are explained. A detailed description of the calculator interface is given, and the complete calculator program is supplied and discussed. Volume I presents a description of the functional components of the TRANSIM system and associated software. (Author)
