The preparation and characterization of the compounds, as well as that of electrolytes and electrodes, are discussed. The kinetics of the intercalation compounds and their discharge characteristics are presented. A comparison is made of the energy content of the various compounds as a function of discharge rate, electrolyte anion, and solvent. Obtainable energy densities of practical cells are estimated.
