Magnetic Rare Earth Compounds III

Abstract

The magnetically uniaxial rare earth iron garnet (Gd,Y,Yb)3(Ga,Fe) 5O12 has been grown on (111) Gd3Ga5O12 substrates. The liquid phase expitaxial dipping technique with horizontal substrate rotation has been employed in conjunction with PbO-B2O3 and BaO-B2O3-BaF2 solvents in the temperature range of 900C-1050C. Growth parameters in the BaO-based solvent, such as growth temperature, undercooling, and rotation rate have been correlated with changes in growth rate and properties of the films. The films have been characterized with respect to composition, impurity content, lattice parameter, optical properties and magnetic properties
