Solution to the Problem of Transverse Oscillations in Prismatic Shells Filled with Liquid (Plane Problem),

Abstract

Analysis of the free transverse oscillations of a closed prismatic shell composed of flexible rectangular panels and filled with a compressible inviscid liquid. A procedure for determining the frequencies of these oscillations by the Ritz variational method is described. The Ostrogradskii-Hamilton expression is used to determine the functional of this variational problem, showing that the functional is a function of the bending of elements of the shell. It is shown that the frequency of the free transverse oscillations of a shell of this type can be reduced by more than 60% when the shell is filled with a compressible inviscid liquid. (Author)
