Radar Measurement of the Atmospheric Turbulence Structure Function.

Abstract

Two methods for measuring the structure function are considered. The first employs conventional pluse Doppler signal processing while the second is intended for use with incoherent radars. Theoretical expressions are given for computing the mean square error of each method as a function of the measurement time and the Doppler spectral shape. An experimental laboratory simulation using the first model of the incoherent detector is described. The simulation results, analyzed with a digital computer, are shown to be in agreement with theory. (Author)
