Pharmacologic Actions of Histamine and Tripelennamine in Guinea Pigs Exposed to Hyperbaric Helium.

Abstract

Results of earlier studies indicated that hyperbaric helium had little effect on histamine toxicity, but did reduce the toxicity of tripelennamine in guinea pigs. For this reason, it was of interest to determine whether the antihistaminic action of tripelennamine was similarly affected by hyperbaric helium. Moreover, since antihistamine action was evaluated by measuring the inhibition of response to a standard dose of histamine, the possible effect of hyperbaric helium on the pharmacologic action of histamine was also investigated.
