Determination of Stability Derivatives of Hydrofoil Craft via System Identification.

Abstract

The capability of applying a sequential estimation technique of system identification to determine unknown coefficient values in the vertical plane equations of motion for a hydrofoil craft is investigated where the craft has random forcing functions and/or measurement noise contamination. Results are obtained from experiments using trajectory data supplied from computer simulation (with known coefficient values) as well as from full scale measurements. The utility of the method and the construction of mathematical models is described. (Author)
