Signal Filtering and Decimation Program.

Abstract

The time required for computer processing of digitized signals is greatly reduced if the desired frequency components in the signal are extracted by means of narrow band filtering and decimation. The report describes a comprehensive computer program which allows convenient and flexible filtering and decimation of digital data. In addition to the operations of signal filtering followed by decimation, the program has: (1) an option to shift the filtered signal to a low-frequency baseband and then lowpass filter the signal before optional decimation, (2) an option to generate low-frequency inphase and quadrature components from the filtered signal by sine-cosine modulation and lowpass filtering, (3) an option to specify decimation limits, thereby permitting the program to design a bandpass filter with maximum bandwidth compatible with the decimation limits specified. This report contains a review of the theory used to design the decimating filters, a complete description of the features of the program, and a description of use of the program. A complete source language (FORTRAN) listing of the program is contained in the report along with a special machine language program to permit the filtering and frequency shifting to be optionally performed on a CSP-30 computer.
