Combustion Instability in a Radial Burner.
Abstract
A burner was developed for and employed in a study of acoustic combustion instability of solid propellants. The objective was to observe oscillations in the radial mode, and to compare their characteristics with those observed in T-burner experiments. It was found that the radial modes are difficult to exicte without the appearance also of tangential modes. Growth constants for the first tangential mode (radial burner) and the first longitudinal mode (T-burner) did not bear the theoretically predicted relationship. The radial burner is more difficult to use than a T-burner and does not produce more easily interpretable data. (Author)
