Heat Ageing of Rubbers

Abstract

The oven aging behaviour of six rubbers (nitrile, polychloroprene, PVC/nitrile, fluorocarbon, diene/EPR and natural), in the form of tensile dumb- bells has been measured and attempts have been made to relate the aging behaviour to conventional rate processes. By fitting to an emperical equation the change of elongation at break the prediction of shelf storage life at ambient temperature can be made for all the rubbers except the fluorinated rubber.
