Design and Implementation of UHTSS - The University of Hawaii Time-Sharing System.

Abstract

In September 1968, the University of Hawaii Electrical Engineering Department began a research project, THE ALOHA SYSTEM, to investigate alternatives to the use of conventional wire communications in a geographically diffuse computer system. With no time-sharing system in operation on the University's IBM 360/65 at that time, THE ALOHA SYSTEM decided to sponsor a sub-project charged with providing a time-sharing facility to meet both its needs and thosr of the University. After carefully investigating the alternatives, it was decided that no existing system satisfied the existing requirements and constraints, and a new system, UHTSS (University of Hawaii Time-Sharing System) was developed. The report documents how the objectives and services of UHTSS have been achieved.
