Optimization Methods for Arrays of Parallel Wire Antennas,

Abstract

Matrix methods are applied for optimization and constrained optimization of various performance indices of arrays of straight, parallel, thin-wire antennas. Performance indices considered include directivity, maximum power gain, quality factor, and efficiency index. Constraints can be applied either to the null directions or the sidelobe levels in the resulting pattern or to another performance index. Mutual coupling is taken completely into account and no unrealistic assumptions are necessary regarding the current distributions of the array wires. Several illustrative examples are included.
