A Novel Transfer of the Diazonium Function from Carbon to Boron.
Abstract
Coupling B10H10(2-) with 2,4,6-tribromobenzene diazonium ion produced a protonated azo compound with the azo function in an apical polyhedral position. When this product heated at reflux in acetonitrile for three hours, 1-B10H9N2(-) and 1,3,5-tribromobenzene are formed in good yield. This method provides the only known route to mono diazonium substituted B10H10(2-)0 and in addition it may be extended to other B10H10(2-) derivatives. (Author)
