Delaware River Model Study. Report No. 3. Effects of Proposed Channel Enlargement Between Philadelphia and Trenton. Appendix A. Tests of Alternate Alignments of Specific Reaches and Closure of Burlington Island Back Channel.
Abstract
The authorized project dimensions for the Delaware River navigation channel between Allegheny Avenue (sta 0+000) in Philadelphia and Trenton Marine Terminal (sta -150+000) have been revised by Congress from a width of 250 ft and a depth of 25 ft mlw to a width of 400 ft and depths of 40 and 35 ft mlw. The report describes model tests made to determine the effects of the channel enlargement between sta 0+000 and -150+000 on hydraulic conditions throughout the entire estuary, and on salinity intrusion in the vicinity of the Delaware-Pennsylvania state line. Since several navigation-channel alignments are possible in each of these reaches, model tests were made to obtain data for use in selecting the best alignment for each.
