Channel Improvements, Canacadea Creek, Hornell, New York; Hydraulic Model Investigation,

Abstract

Plans for a proposed north-south arterial bridge over Canacadea Creek in Hornell, New York, indicate advantages in the extension of the existing high-velocity concrete chute by removal of the existing notched weir at sta 335+31.4, just above the Seneca St. Bridge, and its replacement by a weir of similar design at sta 338+56.4. Tests were conducted in a 1:30-scale model that reproduced Canacadea Creek between sta 323+00 and 345+00 to ensure that ample sidewall freeboard will obtain upstream of the proposed weir as well as adequate freeboard at the north-south arterial, Seneca St., and Church St. Bridges downstream of the proposed wier.
