Vibration, Pressure and Air-demand Tests in Flood-control Sluice, Pine Flat Dam, Kings River, California,

Abstract

During the construction of Pine Flat Dam a complete piezometer system and air-demand measuring facilities were installed in the outlet works. In the summer of 1952, when substantial discharges were passed through the sluices, field measurements were made of: vertical and flexural vibration of a sluice slide gate; fluctuations of the vortex trail; pressures in the sluice intake, on a gate leaf, on the liner, in the conduit and on the tetrahedral deflector; and of velocities in the air vent. Measurements of vertical and flexural vibration made with accelerometers attached to the gate leaf indicate no dangerous conditions. (Author)
