Description, Placement, Maintenance and Recovery Instructions for XW18 Membrane

Abstract

The manual was prepared to provide guidance for engineer construction troops and any troops of the field Army that emplace, maintains, and recover the XW18 membrane and accessories in support of aircraft landing facilities--specifically, runways in theaters of operations, which are essential for support of military airlift operations. The manual provides information describing the XW18 membrane and accessories. The techniques and construction procedures that should be followed during placement, maintenance, and recovery of the membrane surfacing and recovery of the membrane surfacing and repair and maintenance of the soil subgrade are explained in detail. The number of personnel and the amount and type of equipment required to complete the various tasks concerning placement, maintenance, and recovery of the membrane surfacing are discussed.
