Triangular-Flume Study of Distortion Effects: Hydraulic Effects of Model Distortion.

Abstract

An investigation of the hydraulic effects of the various types and degrees of model distortion was undertaken for the purpose of evaluating such distortion effects, with the ultimate aim of establishing limits of permissable distortion for the various types of models. The first phase of the investigation consisted of a search of available pertinent literature, brief exploratory tests in straight rectangular flumes, and a program of idealized studies in a straight flume of triangular cross section in which the degree of distortion could be varied by changing the central angle. The literature was found to contain many discussions of model distortion, but very few dealing with the specific effects of this factor.
