Outlet Works for Abiquiu Dam Rio Chama, New Mexico. Hydraulic Model Investigation.

Abstract

Model investigations of the outlet works for Abiquiu Dam were concerned with the control section of a 12-ft-diameter flood-control conduit, the junction of a 10-ft-diameter uncontrolled outlet with the 12-ft-diameter conduit, and an energy dissipator at the downstream end of the outlet conduit. Tests were conducted on a 1:20-scale model which reproduced 200 ft of the 12-ft-diameter controlled conduit upstream from the control section, the gate section including transitions, the entire 10-ft-diameter uncontrolled outlet of initial design and junction sections of subsequent designs, the controlled conduit downstream from the gate section, and the energy dissipator. A flip-bucket energy dissipator was considered an inexpensive means of obtaining desired dispersion of flow.
