Dry Season Seismic Propagation Mapping of Sensor Test Grids. Part I.

Abstract

Detailed seismic and environmental data collected in test areas located in the Canal Zone are presented and special response tests conducted are described. Also included are techniques used for mapping the seismic responses and the techniques for interpreting the seismic responses and terrain factor complex maps in terms of seismic intrusion detector performance for dry season conditions. The following preliminary results were obtained: (a) the seismic response factor complex maps provide a means of comparing the seismic response factor values within the various sectors of the test areas, (b) the terrain factor complex mapping technique provides a means for estimating seismic response characteristics from one area to another in the dry season; and (c) the techniques used for evaluating the Peak Particle Velocity, Peak summed particle velocity and sum frequency distance relations in terms of the performance of Seismic Intrusion Detectors provide a basis for estimating sensor performance for one man walking in the test areas in the dry season.
