Validity of CGL Equations in Solar-Wind Problems,

Abstract

The double-adiabatic equations of state are derived algebraically from Liouville's theorem for an azimuthally symmetric proton exosphere throughout which the bulk velocity greatly exceeds the proton thermal velocities. The calculated skewing of the distribution function f(v) in the solar exosphere is found to agree qualitatively with observation and with the direction of heat flow inferred from dell T parallel.
