A Cost Function for Concept Formation.

Abstract

The report proposes a cost function, based on entropy or information, that can be used to measure the complexity of a concept, as well as the discrepancy between it and a given set of examples. The function is defined for a particular model of concept formation, namely, context-free stochastic grammatical inference. (Author)
