The Need for Large Wind Tunnels in Europe.

Abstract

The report on the outcome of the deliberations of the LaWs Working Group demonstrates the technical need for planning, providing, and operating large aerodynamic testing facilities on a European basis and shows, in particular, that there is an urgent need in Europe for a new large transonic windtunnel and for a new large low-speed windtunnel, if there is to be a fully-competitive European aerospace Industry which produces a complete range of civil and military aircraft. The report sets out the technical aspects of a European plan for a complex of windtunnels, existing and future, which are believed to be needed and also adequate to serve the research and development requirements of such an industry, in a rational overall system which can carry European aviation forward for the foreseeable future.
