Theoretical Minimum Separation of Parallel Runways,

Abstract

The Operations Analysis Division of the Bureau of Research and Development was asked in October 1958 to develop a plan for determining the minimum separation of dual parallel runways for independent IFR operations. The objectives of the Operations Analysis phase, aimed toward a determination of operational minimum spacing criteria, were: determine the theoretical spacing; recommend the objectives for a simulation phase by Systems Analysis; and recommend the objectives for a flight test phase at the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center.
