The Exoelectronic Emission of Metals and Alloys and Certain Applications of the Method of Exoelectronic Emission for the Investigation of Surface Phenomena,

Abstract

Surface properties have attracted the attention of physicists and practical workers for a long time. The processes which take place on a surface also affect important characteristics of a substance, such as, emission, catalytic and adhesive properties. The structure and the state of a surface to a significant degree determine the strength characteristics of materials under special conditions. At present, there is no definite viewpoint on the physical nature of the phenomenon, there is no universally recognized theory which would describe in detail exoelectronic emission and the phenomenon connected with it. Thus, the authors examine the viewpoints on the nature of exoelectronic emission which exist at the present time and its connection with various surface phenomenon of metals and alloys.
