Determination of Trace Elements in Nickel Base Gas Turbine Parts by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry.

Abstract

An investigation is described to ascertain whether or not atomic absorption spectrophotometry could be used to determine the concentration of trace elements such as silver (Ag), bismuth (Bi), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) in nickel base alloys such as IN100, B1900 and 713C, without interference from the constituent elements. Failed and nonfailed gas turbine parts made of the above alloys were tested to ascertain whether trace amounts of these elements could have possibly caused the early failure of these gas turbine parts.
