The Probability Distribution of the Number of Targets Hit Under Successive Firings.

Abstract

A mathematical development is presented which answers two questions concerning the probablistic outcomes of a succession of weapons (bombs) aimed at some complex of targets. Given a set of k targets and the probabilities that each is hit by a single bomb, as well as the probability of a miss, what are the probabilities of destroying 0, 1, 2, ..., k targets when n bombs attack. A target is supposed destroyed when hit by at least one bomb, and the same, but there is now a positive probability that a pair of targets may be destroyed by a single bomb. (Author)
