Problems Encountered in the Design of a Portable Transmissometer Calibrator.

Abstract

A prototype portable transmissometer calibrator was designed and built using a laser as a projector source. Numerous problems were encountered during the design. Each problem is thoroughly discussed in the report. The amount of field testing performed was limited by the numerous time consuming problems. Field testing results indicate an extrapolation chart will have to be made and verified prior to using this system to calibrate a transmissometer. The system to be discussed appears quite capable of objectively calibrating a transmissometer in all types of weather. (Author)
