Spillways and Stilling Basins, Jackson Dam, Tombigbee River, Alabama: Hydraulic Model Investigation.

Abstract

Performance of gated and fixed-crest spillways and stilling basins for the Jackson Dam was studied on two section models constructed to undistorted scales of 1:50 and 1:36, respectively. The stilling basin below the gated spillway is to be a split-level horizontal apron with a low end sill. The basin below the fixed-crest spillway will consist of a small roller bucket. In general, the spillways and stilling basins were found to function satisfactorily as originally designed; however, revisions were tested in an attempt to improve basin performance and reduce construction costs.
