Identification of Thermal Feedback Parameters for a TRIGA Mark-1 Reactor.

Abstract

An identification procedure is given for determining the thermal feedback parameters for the TRIGA Mark-1 nuclear reactor at The University of Texas at Austin. A discussion of reactivity feedback for heterogeneous reactors is presented. The reactor model, including both thermal and poisoning feedback loops, is developed and then simplified. A brief description is given of the TRIGA reactor and the rest of the experimental equipment. The parameter identification technique is illustrated for the transfer function relating fuel temperature and reactor power level. The design of the two digital filters that are used is also discussed. The reactor system is simulated using the identified parameters. The close match between the simulated results and the measured data indicates that the reactor model is valid for the power regions involved in this experiment. (Author)
