Analysis of Part-Through Quarter-Circular Cracks Emanating from the Boundary of an Internal Circular Hole in a Plate.

Abstract

The report develops an approximate equation for determining stress intensities for partially embedded quarter-circular flaws emanating from a circular hole in a sheet material. The development involved the use of the stress concentration factor for a hole in a plate to take into account the effects that the hole has on the cracktip stress intensity. A design criteria less conservative than the through-crack method is proposed for handling a partially embedded crack emanating from a circular hole. (Author Modified Abstract)
