The idea of initialization is then introduced for use with step scan radars, and the recursively implemented filter is proposed as a leading candidate for the Moving-Target-Indicator role. The essential features of the state variable approach are discussed and several useful relationships are developed. These expressions are then employed in the analysis of a number of filters, and some conclusions are drawn regarding the applicability of the state variable approach. (Author)
