Hydraulic Cylinder and Seal Specification Study. Annual Report, Section I.

Abstract

The purpose of the hydraulic specification program was to develop industrially acceptable test procedures and requirement specifications relative to the performance of hydraulic components and systems to facilitate the military's 'buy commercial' approach. Although the program has been aimed toward components and systems for future 3000 psi operating pressure levels, it was intended that the test procedures be applicable to any pressure level. The report presents a detailed account of the experimental verification part of the hydraulic cylinder and seal studies. It relates the problems encountered as well as the solutions, as reflected in the revised test procedures and specifications. The three components considered in this report are hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic pressure seals, and wiper seals (exclusion devices). (Author)
