The Development of Techniques for Operational Exploitation of Satellite Infrared Channel Radiances in the Resolution of Atmospheric Thermal-Structure Variabilities. Task Two: New Formulations.

Abstract

The authors develop techniques for operational exploitation of satellite infrared channel radiances in the resolution of atmospheric thermal-structure variabilities. The purpose is to develop capabilities for assimilating all available relevant information for operational synoptic resolution of the significant variabilities of the atmospheric thermal-structure distribution. In particular, it is hoped to be able to exploit the information in satellite infrared channel radiance measurements. This is done by expanding analysis concepts which already provide broad capabilities for assimilating information.
